Q. Why have a national student conference?
A. While there are several great regional and national animal rights conferences, Liberation Now! is the only national event that brings together students and youth from all over the country. (In the past years, we have had several groups of students from Canada and Portugal. We LOVE Canadians and folks from other countries!) Unlike other conferences, Liberation Now! features a comprehensive program of panels and workshops on how we, as young activists, can get more involved in the general animal rights movement and how we can organize more effectively for the animals in our schools and communities. Not to mention Liberation Now! is the only place where you will meet and connect with hundreds of other young animal advocates and dozens of organizers from throughout the animal rights movement. Come to help other young activists or be inspired to take action for animal rights!

Q. Who are the organizers of Liberation Now!?
A. Liberation Now! is organized by the Student Animal Rights Alliance and Berkeley Organization For Animal Advocacy. Find out more about us and the other sponsors of this conference by clicking on "Sponsors" on the navigation menu above. We're also proud to be not only an event organized entirely by volunteers, but also by youth for youth!

Q. I can't afford to attend the conference, can you help?
A. YES! Money should not be a reason why any young animal advocate cannot make it to Liberation Now!. We work to make the whole cost of attending the conference as affordable as possible by: fixing the early registration fee to $10 and arranging free and low-cost meals and lodging. We also have travel grants (stay tuned!) and message boards where you can find a ride or a place to stay. Your registration fee helps fund the travel grants that we give out, if you need us to waive your registration fee we are happy to do so. Just email us. We have a firm policy of not turning anyone away due to lack of funds. Register and come enjoy the conference!

Q. How likely am I to receive a travel grant?
A. Thanks to the generosity of the Student Animal Rights Alliance's donors and the other sponsors of Liberation Now!, we are able to keep the whole cost of attending the conference affordable and provide travel grants. But surely, we don't have tons and tons of money. In the past conferences we have been able to approve about 30% of the travel grant applications, from more than 100 applications from groups and individuals at each conference. We strongly recommend that you try to find your own sources of funding, from your school, family, or community, before and while applying for a travel grant.

We generally look for grant applications that are the greatest deals, e.g. if there's two applications for $250, one that would benefit 1 person and another that would benefit 3 persons, the latter application will probably have priority.

The Student Animal Rights Alliance is an organization dedicated to building a strong and diverse youth movement for animal rights. We greatly encourage those who are persons of underrepresented groups in the leadership and make-up of the animal rights movement to apply for a travel grant to attend Liberation Now! should assistance be needed.

Q. Is Liberation Now! affiliated with AR2004 or PETA's Helping Animals 101?
A. No. For more information on FARM's national animal rights conference or PETA's Helping Animals 101 conferences, please visit their respective websites.
www.animalrights2003.org
www.helpinganimals101.com

Q. I'm not young and I'm not a student, can I attend Liberation Now!?
A. We strive to create an empowering environment for students and youth to learn and share in a community of peers. In addition, our conference is focused on how students and youth can get more involved in the animal rights movement and how we can organize more effectively in our schools and communities, please consider PETA's Helping Animals 101 conferences which cater to all animal advocates. The vast majority (about 85%) of past conference attendees were between the ages of 16 to 21.

Q. I'm an employee/representative of a non-sponsoring animal protection or other social justice organization, can I attend the conference?
A. This is reviewed on a case-by-case basis. You may also be interested in receiving information on obtaining an informational table or other promotional opportunities at Liberation Now!. Please contact us for more information.

Q. Why is the Liberation Now! website yellow?
A. According to fashion trendspotters - "
To sum up the fashion colours for spring 2004 leading through to summer and autumn - the fabric palette is yellow and even more yellows...These days, yellow are the purses, pocketbooks, strappy sandals, chandelier earrings, sundresses and all things fashionable." So this is why the LibNow site is yellow. (Oh, and pink is out!)
