HSUS HOLLYWOOD: STUDENT GENESIS AWARD

The Humane Society of the United States Hollywood Office and the Student Animal Rights Alliance are currently calling for entries for the Student Genesis Award category of fhe 19th Annual Genesis Awards. The awards honor outstanding individuals in the major news and entertainment media whose creativity and/or journalistic integrity have increased the public’s
understanding of animal protection issues.

The Student Genesis Award – instated last year – encourages the next generation of journalists and filmmakers to shine the
spotlight on animal cruelty.

The winner will be flown to Los Angeles in March 2005 to attend the black-tie celebrity studded gala awards night at the Beverly Hilton. He or she will have the opportunity to meet and connect with established members of the mainstream media who receive awards, and to have a great time in Los Angeles!

Criteria for Qualification for the Student Genesis Award

1) The works must examine issues central to the animal-rights movement or to animal-protection advocacy.

2) Recipients must be full or part-time college students in a two- or four-year college or university, or graduate journalism or film students.

3) Works produced can include: A) an article printed in a student publication, B) a film or video produced by a student for a class assignment, or C) an article that appeared in a publication for general reading or a video that aired in public (e.g. local access television station, film festivals, etc.).

4) Students may submit more than one piece. Multiple pieces from the same student might be seen as a series, which could have an advantage over a single piece of equal strength.

5) Only works produced, printed, or aired from January 1, 2004 to December 23, 2004 will be considered.

6) Submissions must be received no later than December 23rd, 2004.

7) Film/Video entries must be in DVD or VHS format. Do NOT send originals as entries will not be returned.

8) Lastly, the works are judged solely on their own merits.

Submissions are to be sent along with the following official entry form to:
